an interpretive design studio. Our staff and collaborative colleagues consist of design, information, and education professionals. Our commitment is to make the results of each project a thoughtful, integrated and engaging experience. Our skills have been honed by years of working with museums, aquariums, public agencies, and private industry. Our extensive experience enables us to find new solutions to the challenges which arise in the design and development of public communication.

We offer a range of planning and design services which are specific to the needs of public venues. At the core of all our services are concept development and interpretive planning.

Environmental Graphic Design services include interpretation and wayfinding. Exhibit Design services include 2D and 3D (both real and virtual) exhibits and presentation packages. Graphic Design services include identity and information design.

As the final layer we offer consulting for the production and fabrication of all our design services.

Tanya Bredehoft has been involved in interpretive design for over 15 years. As lead designer for Artefact, her focus is on enabling people to take in information as they navigate through a three-dimensional space. Her work includes the planning and design of interpretive exhibitions, graphics, and signage for museums, aquariums, zoos, nature centers, visitor centers, corporations, and private collectors. In addition to design work, her experience includes project management and fabrication coordination. Tanya holds a B.A. degree in Industrial Design.

George Bredehoft serves as artist-in-residence and technology guide for Artefact Design. He creates many of the background environments used for various project exhibits and graphics. He also works with and advises project members in selecting the appropriate technology tools to weave into the exhibit web. George holds a B.F.A. in ceramic sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute and has been a member of the Macintosh developer community since 1984.

Artefact Design is based in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, a small community in coastal north county San Diego, California. Tanya and George have a very small worm ranch in their front yard.
